The 2020 Stonegarden Field Blend Grenache is a remarkable old-vine red from the Barossa, sourced from a historic vineyard planted in 1858. While predominantly Grenache, the wine is co-fermented with small amounts of Mataro, Shiraz, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Trincadeira, preserving the character of this rare heritage field blend. Crafted by Ben Radford, it is a richer, more structured expression than the estate’s Northwest Grenache, combining old-vine concentration with exceptional freshness and complexity.
The nose reveals blood plum, dark cherry and cassis layered with dried herbs, ironstone, liquorice and warm spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with concentrated dark fruit supported by savoury earthiness, powdery tannins and bright sour cherry acidity. Rich yet beautifully balanced, it finishes long and persistent with impressive depth, energy and mineral character.
