GRENACHE
Grenache is one of the world’s most widely planted red grape varieties, known for producing fruit-forward wines with warmth, spice, and versatility. Originating from Spain (where it is known as Garnacha), Grenache is now a key grape in regions such as the southern Rhône Valley in France and South Australia.
Grenache thrives in warm, dry climates, where it develops ripe fruit flavors and soft tannins. In the Rhône Valley, it is often blended with Syrah and Mourvèdre (GSM blends), creating wines with depth, spice, and structure. In Australia, particularly in regions like McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley, Grenache is increasingly produced as a single varietal, offering both rich and more elegant styles.
Grenache wines are typically medium to full-bodied, with flavors of strawberry, raspberry, red plum, and spice, often complemented by herbal and earthy notes. Compared to more tannic red wines, Grenache tends to be softer and more approachable, making it highly versatile and food-friendly.
