About Wine More Cellars

Melbourne's Curated Independent Wine Merchant

Wine More Cellars is an independent wine merchant located at Chadstone Shopping Centre, Melbourne, specialising in sourcing distinctive wines from both established regions and emerging producers around the world.

Our focus is deliberate. Rather than carrying the same labels found across mainstream retail, we have built a collection for wine lovers who want to explore beyond the familiar: wines with genuine character, clear regional identity, and a story worth sharing.

Founded by Ben Yan

Wine More Cellars was founded by Ben Yan, whose passion for wine grew through years of personal tasting, cellar visits, and building direct relationships with producers across Australia and internationally.

What prompted Ben to start the business was a simple but persistent problem: most Melbourne wine retailers, despite their size, offered nearly identical selections. Curious drinkers looking to explore lesser-known producers, emerging Australian regions, or boutique international estates often found themselves with nowhere to turn.

Wine More Cellars was built to fill that gap. A genuinely independent merchant with the freedom to source what is interesting, not just what is commercial.

A Selection Philosophy Built on Firsthand Experience

At Wine More Cellars, our approach to wine selection is built on curiosity, direct experience, and a commitment to understanding wine at its source rather than from a catalogue.

Rather than relying solely on distributor lists or tasting notes, we believe the most honest way to select wine for our customers is to visit the people who make it.

Each year we travel to the world's major wine regions, visiting vineyards, tasting from barrel and bottle, and developing a genuine understanding of terroir, vintage variation, and what separates an interesting wine from a truly exceptional one.

Over recent years, we have devoted significant time to Bordeaux and Burgundy. During these visits we have had the opportunity to explore and learn from some of the most respected estates in the world, including:

  • Château Latour, Pauillac, Bordeaux
  • Château Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux
  • Château Montrose, Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux
  • Domaine Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy
  • Domaine Armand Rousseau, Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy
  • Domaine de la Pousse d'Or, Volnay, Burgundy

Tasting alongside the people who make these wines, understanding their farming decisions, vintage philosophy, and approach to the cellar, changes how you evaluate every bottle you select afterward.

Our philosophy extends equally to Australian wine. We make regular visits to producers across Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia, regions that continue to produce some of the most exciting and underappreciated wines in the world.

If a Wine Does Not Excite Us, We Do Not Carry It

Every wine on our shelves has been evaluated through personal tasting before it is stocked. We are not guided by industry awards lists or distributor allocations alone.

We believe the most rewarding bottles are often not the most famous labels. They are wines that express a clear sense of place: the soil, the climate, the hand of the producer. Wines that reward attention and conversation.

This principle has shaped our collection from the beginning, and it is not a marketing position. It is simply how we work.

Wines from the World's Great Regions

Our range spans both the Old World and the New World, with careful selection across:

Australia — Premium producers from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Margaret River, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, and emerging regions across Victoria and South Australia

France — Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, and Rhône Valley, including grower Champagnes and small-domaine Burgundy not typically found in chain retail

Italy — Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello di Montalcino, and producers from across Piedmont and Tuscany

New Zealand — Marlborough, Central Otago, and Hawke's Bay estates

California — Selected producers representing the diversity of Napa Valley and Sonoma

Emerging producers — Boutique estates from Spain, Austria, Germany, and other regions where we find work worth noticing

Every wine in the range earned its place through flavour, provenance, and the story behind the bottle.
