YALUMBA
Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family-owned winery, established in 1849 by British brewer Samuel Smith in Angaston, South Australia. The name “Yalumba” is believed to derive from a Peramangk Aboriginal word meaning “all the land around.”
For over 175 years, Yalumba has been under the stewardship of the Hill-Smith family, now in its sixth generation. The winery has played a pivotal role in shaping Australia’s wine industry, notably pioneering the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blend and introducing Viognier to the country.
he winery has been under the stewardship of the Hill-Smith family for six generations, maintaining a legacy of independence and innovation in winemaking. Yalumba is notable for being the only winery in Australia, and one of only a few worldwide, to operate its own on-site cooperage, crafting oak barrels for aging its wines.
Yalumba's red wines are bold, rich, and structured standing as a Barossa hallmark. They often show black fruit, spice, and earthy complexity. Its white wines can be fresh and floral or rich and complex, with peach, apricot, and ginger notes.
