The 2022 Mas de Libian Côtes du Rhône Khayyâm is a beautifully expressive and deeply savoury southern Rhône red from one of the region’s benchmark biodynamic estates. Produced by the Thibon family from organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards on the right bank of the Rhône in the Ardèche, the wine is named after the Persian poet Omar Khayyâm, whose verses celebrated wine, beauty and pleasure. Crafted from roughly 75% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah grown on red clay soils covered with galets roulés, the wine reflects Mas de Libian’s low-intervention philosophy and Mediterranean terroir with remarkable purity and finesse.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with supple tannins, vibrant natural acidity and a finely detailed mineral core. Layers of black cherry, raspberry and plum are interwoven with rosemary, lavender, black pepper and earthy spice, finishing long, savoury and beautifully persistent with excellent freshness and Rhône character. Fermentation in tank followed by ageing in large oak foudres preserves the wine’s youthful vibrancy and aromatic transparency while adding subtle texture and depth. The 2022 vintage delivers impressive concentration and warmth while maintaining the balance and energy that define the domaine’s wines.
