The 2024 San Salvatore 1988 Porconero Falanghina IGP is a fresh and aromatic white wine from Campania in southern Italy, produced from 100% Falanghina. The grapes are grown in the Cannito vineyards at around 150–210 metres above sea level, where the warm Mediterranean climate and coastal influence help create a wine with both ripe fruit character and refreshing freshness. It opens with aromas of citrus, green apple and stone fruit, layered with orange blossom, Mediterranean herbs and subtle saline notes.
On the palate, it is crisp, lively and beautifully approachable, with bright citrus and orchard fruit complemented by floral and savoury Mediterranean notes. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and matured for approximately six months in steel, preserving the purity and aromatic character of Falanghina. Fresh acidity and an attractive saline quality lead into a clean, refreshing and gently textured finish.
Ben's Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for anyone looking to explore the fresh, coastal character of southern Italian white wines. Falanghina offers something a little different from Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, combining citrus freshness, floral aromatics and a distinctive Mediterranean salinity. Enjoy well chilled now or over the next 2–3 years. Pair with spaghetti alle vongole, grilled prawns, calamari, raw seafood, seafood pasta or light Mediterranean dishes.
