The 2022 Pierre Amadieu Gigondas Romane Machotte is a powerful yet elegant Southern Rhône red that showcases the character of one of Gigondas’ most respected estates. Predominantly Grenache with a touch of Syrah, the wine opens with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and wild strawberry, layered with notes of violet, garrigue herbs, black pepper and subtle spice. The high-altitude vineyards and limestone-rich soils contribute freshness and structure to the wine.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with ripe dark berry flavours, silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Hints of thyme, rosemary and mineral notes add complexity, leading to a long, savoury finish with impressive depth and finesse. While approachable now, the wine has excellent cellaring potential and will continue to evolve over the next decade.
Ben’s Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is a fantastic choice for customers who enjoy rich, structured Rhône reds with plenty of character and ageing potential. Enjoy now with decanting or cellar for 8–10 years. Perfect with roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, game dishes, hearty stews or classic Mediterranean cuisine.
