The 2018 Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet is the elegant second wine of Château Lafon-Rochet, a historic Fourth Growth estate in Saint-Estèphe. Produced from carefully selected parcels, the outstanding 2018 vintage delivers the structure and character of the appellation in a more approachable style. The nose is expressive with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum, complemented by cedar, violet, graphite and subtle baking spice.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with fresh acidity and fine, supple tannins. Flavours of cassis, dark cherry and blackberries are layered with notes of liquorice, gentle oak and earthy minerality, leading to a smooth, balanced finish. While ready to enjoy in its youth, the wine retains the hallmark freshness and structure of Saint-Estèphe, offering excellent depth and complexity.
Ben's Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent introduction to the style of Château Lafon-Rochet and a great choice for lovers of classic Left Bank Bordeaux. Pair with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, beef fillet, duck breast or aged hard cheeses. Enjoy now with a short decant or cellar for the next 8–12 years as additional complexity develops.
