The 2023 Racines de Montille Estate Pinot Noir is the inaugural Pinot Noir from Racines’ own Sta. Rita Hills estate vineyard in California. Planted in 2020 on limestone-based and sandy clay-loam soils, the vineyard produces a fragrant expression with wild raspberry, black cherry and rose petal alongside forest spice and subtle savoury notes.
On the palate, it is silky yet structured, with vibrant red fruit, fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins leading to a mineral, dry finish. 40% whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts and 19 months in French oak with 20% new barrels add complexity while retaining freshness and definition.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for those who enjoy cool-climate Pinot Noir with fragrant fruit, fine tannins and mineral structure. Drinking well now with potential through around 2031. Ideal with roast duck, lamb, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes or roast chicken.
