The 2023 Racines de Montille Estate Chardonnay is the inaugural Chardonnay from Racines’ own 23-acre estate vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, California, planted in 2020. Grown between 540 and 850 feet elevation on fractured limestone and calcareous clay-loam soils, it shows restrained orchard and citrus fruit with stony mineral notes and a distinct saline character.
On the palate, it is concentrated and finely structured, with bright acidity, mineral tension and a textured, dry finish. Native-yeast fermentation takes place in 500L puncheons and 228L French oak barriques, with around 25% new oak, followed by 11 months in barrel and seven months in stainless steel on lees.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for those who enjoy cool-climate Chardonnay with restrained fruit, limestone-derived mineral character and fresh acidity. Drinking well from 2026–2032. Ideal with scallops, grilled snapper, roast chicken, lobster or creamy mushroom dishes.
