The 2022 Domaine des Carlines Savagnin Ouillé En Charnay is a distinctive dry white from the Côtes du Jura, France, made from 100% Savagnin grown on grey marl soils. The nose shows white peach, pear and citrus with white flowers, gentle spice and a pronounced mineral character.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated with bright acidity, ripe yellow fruit and a distinctive saline freshness. The wine is matured for 18 months in older barrels followed by eight months in tank, with the topped-up ouillé style preserving freshness and purity rather than developing the oxidative character associated with traditional Vin Jaune.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Jura drinkers who enjoy concentrated white wines with citrus, mineral intensity and a savoury, saline edge. Enjoy it now or cellar over the next 5–10 years as further complexity develops. Ideal with firm white fish, prawns, shellfish, sushi, Asian-inspired dishes or mature Comté.
