The 2021 Kientzler Riesling Grand Cru “Schoenenbourg” is a highly regarded Alsace Riesling from one of the region’s most respected family estates in Ribeauvillé. Schoenenbourg is one of Alsace’s most historic and celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, located near Riquewihr on steep south-facing slopes rich in marl, gypsum and dolomite soils — terroirs renowned for producing powerful yet highly mineral Rieslings with exceptional longevity.
The nose is intensely refined and mineral-driven, showing lime zest, citrus blossom and white peach layered with smoky flint, wet stone and subtle saline complexity. The cool 2021 growing season produced wines with vibrant acidity and outstanding terroir expression.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with crystalline acidity and a beautifully focused structure. At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the finest dry Alsace Rieslings we recommend for serious white wine collectors. Compared to German Riesling, it’s drier, broader and more mineral-driven; compared to white Burgundy, it offers similar complexity and terroir expression but with much higher acidity and precision. Schoenenbourg is one of Alsace’s legendary Grand Cru vineyards, and Kientzler’s tiny-production bottling is especially sought after for its purity and structure. The 2021 vintage is beautifully classical — all about finesse, tension and longevity rather than overt richness. This is a serious cellar-worthy Riesling that will evolve magnificently over time. Drink from 2025 onwards or cellar comfortably for 15–25+ years. Perfect with oysters, lobster, pork, Asian cuisine or refined seafood dishes.
