The 2021 Kientzler Riesling Grand Cru “Osterberg” is a highly refined Alsace Riesling from one of Ribeauvillé’s most respected family estates. Osterberg is a historic Grand Cru vineyard with predominantly east and south-east exposures, known for producing Rieslings of remarkable finesse, minerality and long ageing potential. The balanced marl and limestone soils give the wines both structure and precision, while the cool 2021 vintage emphasised freshness and terroir expression.
The nose is intensely mineral and elegant, showing lime zest, citrus blossom and white peach layered with smoky flint, jasmine and wet stone complexity. Critics and merchants have highlighted the wine’s linear structure, chalky acidity and refined “classic and flinty” profile, with exceptional freshness and tension throughout.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with crystalline acidity and a beautifully focused structure. Citrus, orchard fruit and saline mineral notes are supported by chalky tension and subtle phenolic grip, leading to a long, precise and flinty finish. Compared to richer Alsace Rieslings, Osterberg leans more toward elegance, linearity and mineral precision while still carrying impressive Grand Cru depth. The 2021 vintage is especially compelling for its purity, freshness and cellar potential.
Ben’s Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the finest dry Alsace Rieslings we recommend for serious white wine collectors. Compared to German Riesling, it’s drier, broader and more mineral-driven; compared to white Burgundy, it offers similar terroir complexity but with higher acidity and tension. Osterberg is often considered the more classical and flinty counterpart to the richer Geisberg style, making it especially appealing for customers who enjoy precise, age-worthy whites. The 2021 vintage is beautifully classical — all about finesse, purity and longevity rather than overt richness. Drink from 2025 onwards or cellar comfortably for 15–25+ years. Perfect with oysters, lobster, pork, sushi or refined seafood dishes.
