KIENTZLER

Domaine André Kientzler (often just “Kientzler”) is a distinguished, family-owned winery in the Alsace region of France, based around Ribeauvillé, Bergheim, Hunawihr and Riquewihr.  The estate covers about 13.8 hectares, including 4.4 ha of Grand Cru vineyards on Geisberg, Osterberg, Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé and a small parcel on Schoenenbourg.

The Kientzler family has cultivated vines in the area for five generations, tracing back to the 19th century.  Today, Thierry (winemaker) and his brother Éric (commercial direction) lead the domaine, maintaining a focus on dry, terroir-driven wines.  In 2023, the estate achieved organic certification, reflecting their long-standing commitment to sustainable vineyard practices.

Their vineyards lie on steep, often rocky slopes with varied soils: marl, limestone/grès (sandstone) and shale, depending on the Grand Cru site.  These terroirs yield wines of great precision and structure — particularly Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Auxerrois are cultivated.

The wines are made in a refined, restrained style, with the goal of expressing the purity and minerality of each terroir. The Rieslings — especially from Geisberg and Osterberg — are known for their tension, chiseled acidity, and longevity.  Their Gewürztraminer is rich, aromatic and textured, often showing exotic spice and florality.
