The 2020 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo Monvigliero comes from one of the most celebrated crus in Verduno, a vineyard revered for producing Barolo of extraordinary perfume, finesse and elegance. The Alessandria family is regarded as one of Monvigliero’s benchmark producers, crafting a traditionally styled Barolo that captures the vineyard’s unique combination of aromatic complexity, fine tannins and mineral precision.
The nose is intensely fragrant, revealing wild strawberry, red cherry, rose petal and violet, layered with notes of spice, cinnamon and crushed earth. The palate is silky yet structured, with vibrant acidity, refined tannins and exceptional balance. Jeb Dunnuck and Wine Enthusiast both awarded the wine 96 points, while Wine Spectator scored it 95 points, praising its elegance, energy and remarkable sense of place. Built on finesse rather than power, it finishes long, savoury and beautifully persistent.
Ben’s Recommendation:
One of the finest expressions of Verduno and a superb example of why Monvigliero has become one of Barolo’s most sought-after vineyards. Perfumed, graceful and exceptionally age-worthy, it pairs beautifully with truffle pasta, braised beef, duck, game birds and aged hard cheeses. While already captivating with extended decanting, it will continue to evolve magnificently through 2045 and beyond.
