The 2020 Fratelli Alessandria Barolo San Lorenzo comes from a historic hillside vineyard in Verduno, located adjacent to the famed Monvigliero cru. Produced by one of Verduno’s benchmark estates, this single-vineyard Barolo captures the village’s signature style of perfume, finesse and elegance. Aged traditionally in large oak casks, it combines the transparency of Nebbiolo with the depth and complexity of a great cru site.
The nose reveals red cherry, raspberry and rose petal layered with notes of spice, black truffle, eucalyptus and fresh herbs. On the palate, it is beautifully poised, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and a mineral-driven core that carries through a long, savoury finish. Kerin O’Keefe awarded the wine 95 points, Wine Enthusiast 94 points and Robert Parker 93 points, highlighting its balance, elegance and impressive ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb expression of Verduno Barolo that sits beautifully between the power of Monforte and the perfume of La Morra. Refined, complex and effortlessly elegant, it pairs perfectly with truffle pasta, braised beef, roast duck, game birds and aged cheeses. Approachable with a long decant, but it will continue to evolve gracefully through 2040 and beyond.
