The 2010 Barranco Oscuro Garnata is a distinctive 100% Garnacha from the high-altitude vineyards of Granada in southern Spain. Grown at around 1,300–1,368 metres on slate and schist soils, it shows wild blackberry and red berry fruit alongside dried herbs, cocoa, earthy spice and savoury mineral notes.
On the palate, it is dry, concentrated and structured, combining ripe berry fruit with impressive freshness and a long, savoury finish. The grapes are destemmed and naturally fermented in stainless steel using indigenous yeasts, without added yeast or other winemaking additives. Natural malolactic fermentation takes place during barrel maturation in the estate’s underground cellar.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for drinkers interested in mature, naturally made Spanish Garnacha with distinctive high-altitude character. Now with significant bottle age, it offers an intriguing combination of developed fruit, savoury complexity and freshness. Ideal with roast lamb, grilled beef, game, slow-cooked pork, mushroom dishes or aged Manchego.
