The 2023 Sato La Ferme de Sato Alyssum Gamay is a small-production Central Otago red made from 100% Gamay grown at Sato’s estate vineyard in Pisa. The nose is fragrant and detailed, showing red cherry, strawberry and dried flowers alongside orange peel, pepper, spice and subtle earthy notes. The alluvial soils contain sandy and silty loam with schist and quartz gravel, contributing firmness and mineral character.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with bright acidity, finely structured tannins and concentrated red fruit. Natural yeast fermentation, 27 days on skins and 15 months in older French oak barrels preserve the fruit while adding savoury depth, leading to a long, fresh and mineral-driven finish.
