The 2022 Domaine Charvin “Le Poutet” is a standout Côtes du Rhône that sits just on the edge of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, crafted from old vines (average 40–50 years) with a blend led by Grenache (around 80%) supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan. It reflects a traditional, low-intervention style with whole-bunch fermentation and ageing in concrete, emphasising purity and terroir expression.
The nose is lifted and expressive, showing red cherry, raspberry and plum, layered with herbes de Provence, white pepper and subtle sandalwood spice. There is a clear Rhône identity, combining ripe fruit with savoury garrigue and floral nuances.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a silky, open texture and fine, polished tannins. Juicy red and dark fruit are balanced by fresh acidity and mineral undertones, leading to a long, elegant and gently savoury finish. The style is pure, vibrant and balanced — often described as “baby Châteauneuf-du-Pape” but with more accessibility and drinkability.
