The 2023 Te Mata Estate Elston Chardonnay is one of Hawke’s Bay’s most celebrated Chardonnays, produced by the historic Te Mata Estate from estate vineyards in the Havelock Hills, home to some of New Zealand’s oldest Chardonnay plantings. The Elston label represents the estate’s flagship Chardonnay style—rich, structured and built to age.
The 2023 vintage reveals expressive aromas of grapefruit, white peach and nectarine, layered with hints of vanilla, roasted hazelnut and flinty minerality. On the palate, citrus and stone-fruit flavours are supported by a creamy texture, brioche and lemon-brûlée notes, finishing long with bright acidity and a subtle saline edge.
Fermented and matured in French oak barrels for around 11 months, Elston combines richness with precision, making it one of the most refined Chardonnay expressions from Hawke's Bay, a region known for producing elegant cool-climate whites and structured reds.
