The 2025 Bindi Dhillon Glenhope Accidental Red is a wonderfully vibrant, easy-drinking wine that embodies Bindi’s minimalist philosophy with an intentionally playful approach. Originally born from an unexpected co-fermentation of leftover Merlot and Shiraz pressings in 2022, the wine has since become a deliberate part of the Dhillon range. In 2025, whole Merlot berries were fermented with pressed Shiraz juice, reducing the skin-to-juice ratio to create a lighter, more delicate style. After a brief wild yeast fermentation, the wine matured for six months in barrel through winter, resulting in a fresh, expressive red designed to be enjoyed young, lightly chilled, and in generous pours.
The nose is bright and inviting, offering aromas of red cherry juice, wild blueberry and ripe stone fruits, lifted by delicate violet florals and a subtle dusting of brown spice. Gentle earthy nuances emerge with air, adding complexity without diminishing the wine’s exuberant fruit character. The bouquet is fragrant and energetic, recalling a youthful cool-climate Pinot Noir more than a traditional Merlot-Shiraz blend.
On the palate, the wine is supple, juicy and effortlessly drinkable, with a silky mid-weight texture supported by bright natural acidity. Crunchy red cherries, summer berries and hints of blueberry glide across the palate, while fine, polished tannins provide enough structure to maintain freshness and balance. The restrained extraction gives the wine an airy, Pinot-like elegance, finishing cleanly with lingering notes of fresh berries, gentle spice and earthy savouriness.
Although crafted primarily for youthful enjoyment, the 2025 Glenhope Accidental Red has the balance to evolve gracefully over the next five to six years. Served slightly chilled, it is an immensely versatile and approachable wine that captures the charm of premium Macedon Ranges fruit with freshness, purity and an infectious sense of fun.
