The 2024 Ata Rangi Kotinga Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of the flagship wines from New Zealand’s iconic Ata Rangi estate and a benchmark expression of Martinborough Pinot Noir. Sourced from the organically farmed Kotinga Vineyard, planted predominantly to Dijon clones on free-draining alluvial gravels, the wine is crafted to express purity, mineral tension and site transparency. Matured in large-format 2,280L foudre rather than small barrels, it preserves exceptional fruit definition and vineyard character.
The outstanding 2024 vintage has produced a wine of remarkable elegance and precision. Aromas of red cherry, bitter orange peel, wild herbs and baking spices lead into a medium-bodied palate with silky tannins, bright acidity and a vivid flinty mineral core. The finish is long, energetic and beautifully focused, reflecting both the exceptional vintage and the distinctive Kotinga vineyard. Critics have been unanimous in their praise, with 97 points from James Suckling, 96 points from Halliday Wine Companion (Mike Bennie) and 95 points from Stephen Wong MW.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, Kotinga is one of New Zealand’s finest single-vineyard Pinot Noirs. Compared to Central Otago Pinot Noir, it is more restrained, savoury and mineral-driven; compared to Burgundy, it combines Old World finesse with the purity and vibrancy of Martinborough fruit. The exceptional 2024 vintage delivers outstanding balance, complexity and ageing potential, making it a must-have for serious Pinot Noir collectors. Drink from 2027 onwards or cellar comfortably for 15–20+ years. Perfect with duck, quail, venison, wild mushrooms and refined modern cuisine.
