The 2024 Anne and Jean-François Ganevat La Croix des Batailles is a lively Vin de France Pinot Noir produced from fruit sourced across Jura and Mâconnais vineyards. The wine undergoes a cool semi-carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts, followed by approximately one year in old foudre before bottling without fining, filtration or added sulphur. Its pale ruby colour introduces aromas of redcurrant, crushed strawberry, cranberry and rhubarb, layered with rose, jasmine, sage, ginger, pepper, flint and intriguing woodland notes.
On the palate, it is light, precise and energetic, with tangy red berries, wild strawberry, sloe and candied rhubarb framed by fine, powdery tannins. Bright acidity provides freshness and definition, while floral tea, pepper and subtle mineral notes carry the persistent finish. This is a delicate, highly individual Pinot Noir driven by fragrance and vibrant fruit rather than weight.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a fascinating choice for those who enjoy light-bodied, minimal-intervention Pinot Noir with savoury complexity. Serve slightly chilled at approximately 16°C and decant for up to two hours, particularly when young. Best enjoyed from 2026 through approximately 2034. Ideal with roast chicken, guinea fowl in cream sauce, pork terrine, charcuterie, grilled salmon or mushroom dishes.
