A richly layered yet beautifully balanced Hunter Valley Shiraz from Andrew Thomas, blending premium barrels from the Kiss, Sweetwater Ridge and Dam Block vineyards. Originally created as a “beautiful accident,” Elenay has become one of the winery’s most celebrated releases thanks to its combination of plush fruit, spice and classic Hunter elegance. The nose shows blackberry, mulberry and dark cherry alongside violet, anise, warm spice and subtle milk chocolate notes. There’s a lifted floral freshness balanced by savoury cured meat and earthy complexity.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with dense dark fruit, silky texture and fine dusty tannins. Plush and generous without becoming heavy, with bright acidity and savoury spice carrying through a long polished finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb modern Hunter Shiraz that balances richness with freshness and finesse. More polished and plush than classic lean Hunter styles, while still retaining excellent structure and ageing potential. Fantastic with roast lamb, beef cheeks or chargrilled meats. Drink now with decanting or cellar through 2038+.
