The 2023 Onannon Shoreham Wynnton Ridge Chardonnay is a single-vineyard Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay sourced from the south-facing Wynnton Ridge Vineyard in Shoreham. Established in 1994 on a former dairy farm, this cool-climate site is known for producing Chardonnay with exceptional natural acidity and mineral character. The wine opens with aromas of citrus curd, baked apple and lemon rind, layered with hints of anise, spice and subtle savoury complexity.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully textured, with flavours of apple, quince and citrus supported by bright acidity and a distinct chalky, saline edge. Matured without new oak and left on lees to build complexity, the wine delivers impressive purity and site expression. The finish is long, savoury and mineral-driven, with notes of spice, citrus and gentle creaminess lingering through the palate.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent Chardonnay for those who appreciate site-driven wines with texture, minerality and restraint. Drinking beautifully now, it also has the structure to develop further over the next 5–8 years. Pair with grilled kingfish, fresh oysters, roast chicken, creamy seafood dishes or soft-ripened cheeses.
