ONANNON

Domaine Onannon is a boutique wine venture founded in 2008 on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, by three winemaking colleagues: Sam Middleton, Kaspar Hermann, and Will Byron. Their name blends the last letters of each surname—ONAN—forming a unique identity rooted in friendship and shared ambition. Middleton and Hermann continue to work in the Yarra Valley (at Mount Mary), while Byron is based on the Mornington Peninsula. Together, they focus on capturing the essence of their region through expressive wines, primarily Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Initially concentrating on Pinot Noir from Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland—and later adding a Gippsland Chardonnay in 2012—Onannon sources fruit from select premium vineyards including Red Hill, Merricks, Shoreham, Tuerong, Main Ridge, and Flinders. These small parcels allow for distinctive single-vineyard and regional blend wines that reflect the diversity of Mornington’s cooler maritime terroir.

Onannon wines have earned a devoted following for their small-batch production, clear sense of place, and expressive clarity. Described by James Halliday as “bright, expressive wines made in minuscule quantities” and lauded for their winemaking passion and authenticity, the trio is recognized as one of Australia’s most promising boutique producers.

Onannon is a highly regarded collaborative winery that brings together deep experience and winemaking pedigree to craft terroir-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Victoria’s coolest wine regions. With tightly focused vineyard selection, minimal intervention, and strong critical acclaim, their wines offer distinctive character and impressive ageing potential.
