The 2021 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Vineyard Selection 4 Pack is a rare collector’s set from Martinborough, New Zealand, created to showcase the remarkable differences between Ata Rangi’s flagship Pinot Noir and three individual vineyard expressions. Ata Rangi was established by Clive Paton in 1980 and has become one of New Zealand’s benchmark Pinot Noir producers, with winemaker Helen Masters continuing the estate’s focus on organic farming, old vines and the distinctive alluvial gravels of the Martinborough Terrace. Rather than simply presenting four variations of the same wine, this limited selection allows Pinot Noir lovers to explore how different soils, exposures and vine material translate into distinctly different expressions of Martinborough terroir.

The pack contains four 750ml bottles: 2021 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir, 2021 Ata Rangi Kotinga Pinot Noir, 2021 Ata Rangi Masters Pinot Noir and 2019 Ata Rangi McCrone Vineyard Pinot Noir. The flagship Ata Rangi represents the classic house style, built around the estate’s historic Martinborough vineyards and old Abel clone material. Kotinga comes from free-draining alluvial gravels and is matured in large-format foudre, producing a brighter, crunchier and more energetic expression. Masters Vineyard, owned and farmed by winemaker Helen Masters and her family, lies approximately four kilometres south of the Martinborough Terrace on cooler gravel-and-clay soils and gives a fragrant, layered Pinot Noir with fine tannins and savoury spice. McCrone, planted in 2001 close to Ata Rangi’s home block but over a distinctive compact clay seam, produces perhaps the silkiest and most texturally different expression of the group.
