The 2020 Domaine Michel Mallard Ladoix 1er Cru Les Gréchons is an elegant Premier Cru Chardonnay from the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, where the limestone-rich slopes of Ladoix produce wines of impressive precision and mineral character. Aged for 15 months in French oak, with around 30% new barrels, the wine opens with expressive aromas of white peach, pear and citrus, complemented by notes of white flowers, roasted hazelnut and flinty minerality.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a beautifully textured mouthfeel and vibrant natural acidity. Flavours of ripe stone fruit, lemon zest and crisp orchard fruit are framed by subtle oak and a pronounced chalky mineral backbone, leading to a long, dry and focused finish. The balance between richness and freshness gives the wine remarkable poise, while its firm acid structure suggests excellent ageing potential over the next 8–12 years.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding white Burgundy for customers who appreciate mineral-driven Chardonnay with finesse and complexity. It pairs beautifully with grilled lobster, seared scallops, seafood risotto, baked salmon, fillets of sole or roast pork with apple. Best served lightly chilled, with excellent drinking now or after a few years of careful cellaring as the wine gains further depth and complexity.
