A benchmark aged Hunter Valley Semillon from Andrew Thomas, sourced from the famed Braemore Vineyard planted in 1969. Released after six years of bottle age, the wine is just beginning to show the classic secondary complexity that makes great Hunter Semillon so unique. The nose shows lemon curd, lime zest and preserved citrus alongside toast, chamomile, wet stone and subtle gunflint notes. There’s an emerging waxy, nutty complexity while still retaining remarkable freshness and purity.
On the palate, it is light-bodied yet intensely concentrated, with vibrant acidity, chalky minerality and layers of citrus, sourdough and roasted almond. Still youthful and tightly structured, but already showing beautiful bottle-aged Hunter character through the long saline finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
One of Australia’s benchmark aged Semillons and a brilliant example of why Hunter Valley Semillon is world class. Complex, mineral and incredibly ageworthy while remaining only 10.6% alcohol. Outstanding with oysters, sashimi, roast chicken or soft cheeses. Drink now or cellar confidently through 2045+.
