The 2019 La Réserve de Léoville Barton is the second wine of Château Léoville Barton from Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The nose is expressive with blackcurrant, blackberry and red cherry, layered with violet, cedar, graphite, leafy herbs and subtle liquorice.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fresh acidity, supple texture and fine, integrated tannins. Red and black fruits are complemented by cedar and savoury spice, while around 12 months in French oak adds complexity without overwhelming the fruit, leading to a balanced and persistent finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Bordeaux drinkers who enjoy Cabernet-driven Saint-Julien with refined tannins and an approachable style compared with the estate’s Grand Vin. Drinking well now, it can continue developing into the early-to-mid 2030s. Ideal with roast lamb, grilled steak, duck, slow-braised beef or mature hard cheeses.
