The 2018 Amélie Guillot Vin Jaune is a traditional and intensely characterful white from Arbois in France’s Jura region, made entirely from old-vine Savagnin planted in 1954 on limestone-rich marl soils around Molamboz. The nose is distinctive and complex, showing walnut, quince and baked apple alongside beeswax, curry spice and subtle earthy mineral notes.
On the palate, it is powerful and completely dry, with firm acidity and a pronounced saline, mineral freshness balancing its rich nutty and savoury flavours. Following fermentation in oak, the wine spends more than six years ageing under a naturally occurring veil of yeast, developing the oxidative complexity characteristic of Vin Jaune. It is bottled in the traditional 620ml clavelin.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Jura enthusiasts looking for a classic Vin Jaune with remarkable intensity, savoury depth and a long mineral finish. Built for extended cellaring but equally fascinating now with time in the glass. Ideal with Comté, morel mushrooms, roast poultry, creamy mushroom dishes or other aged cheeses.
