The 2017 Domaine des Perdrix Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Perrière is a mature Premier Cru Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, produced from a tiny 0.27-hectare parcel situated directly below Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru - with only the road separating La Perrière from the Grand Cru vineyard. Domaine des Perdrix’s vines average around 60 years of age, growing on a gently sloping site with small stones over relatively deep clay soils. The vineyard has an unusual geological history: Perrière refers to a former shallow stone quarry that was subsequently filled with soil and planted to vines. This combination of old vines, clay-rich soils and immediate proximity to Mazis-Chambertin gives La Perrière considerably more depth and structure than its small size and relatively low profile might suggest.
