The 2016 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge is a distinguished Grand Cru Classé de Graves from Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, made from 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The nose is fresh and complex with blackcurrant, blackberry and dark cherry, layered with pine, pepper, cedar and distinctive mineral notes.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with concentrated dark fruit, vibrant freshness and exceptionally fine, silky tannins. Matured for 16–18 months in French oak, around one-third new, it combines richness with savoury spice and mineral complexity, leading to a long, elegant and persistent finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Bordeaux drinkers who enjoy refined Cabernet-driven wines with dark fruit, silky tannins and the smoky, mineral character associated with Pessac-Léognan. Drinking well now, it has the structure to continue developing into the 2040s and potentially beyond. Ideal with roast lamb, grilled steak, slow-braised beef, duck, venison or mature hard cheeses.
