A classic, finely tuned Hunter Valley Semillon from Andrew Thomas, sourced from the low-yielding Oakey Creek Vineyard in Pokolbin. After years of making a riper style from this site, Thomas shifted toward a more traditional Hunter expression focused on purity, precision and bright acidity. The nose shows lemon zest, lime, lemongrass and green apple alongside subtle dried ginger and wet stone minerality. There’s a bright, steely freshness that feels distinctly Hunter Valley.
On the palate, it is light-bodied, crisp and intensely refreshing with tangy citrus fruit, chalky texture and a long mineral finish. Linear and vibrant in youth, with excellent tension and classic ageing structure.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb modern Hunter Semillon — pure, energetic and incredibly food friendly. More classic and acid-driven than the slightly rounder Fordwich Hill style, making it ideal for lovers of traditional Hunter Semillon. Brilliant with oysters, prawns, sashimi or fresh goat’s cheese. Drink now or cellar through 2040+.
