The 2022 Taka K Pearson Estate Pinot Noir is an elegant, small-batch Pinot Noir from the Pearson Vineyard in Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. Crafted by Takahiro Koyama using hand-harvested fruit, wild yeast fermentation and 18 months in French oak, it reflects the free-draining gravel soils and cool-climate character of the site. The nose is fragrant with aromas of red cherry, raspberry and rosehip, complemented by hints of hibiscus, sweet herbs and subtle earthy spice.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with silky tannins, bright natural acidity and impressive finesse. Juicy red berry and plum flavours are balanced by savoury notes and a gentle mineral edge, leading to a long, fresh finish with excellent purity. Unfined and unfiltered, it is beautifully approachable now while offering the potential to develop gracefully over the next 6–8 years.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for customers who appreciate elegant, cool-climate Pinot Noir with vibrant fruit and refined structure. Pair it with roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, herb-roasted chicken or soft-rind cheeses. Serve slightly below room temperature and decant for 20–30 minutes to fully enjoy its delicate aromatics and silky texture.
