The 2023 Cellier Saint Benoît Arbois Pupillin Fonteneille Trousseau is a beautifully aromatic and finely structured Jura red from one of the region’s most exciting young producers. Crafted by Benjamin Benoit in the village of Pupillin, the wine comes from the Fonteneille parcel situated on clay and silt soils over limestone rich in fossilised gryphées, at elevations around 390–400 metres. Planted in 2008, these are among the youngest Trousseau vines on the estate, yet they already deliver remarkable purity and finesse. Vinified entirely with whole bunches and aged in used oak barrels without filtration, the 2023 reflects the domaine’s low-intervention philosophy focused on transparency, freshness and site expression.
The nose reveals raspberry, wild strawberry and rose petal layered alongside crushed herbs, spice and subtle earthy minerality, giving the wine remarkable aromatic lift and delicacy. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a beautifully poised mineral core. Layers of red berry fruit and savoury spice unfold with saline freshness and gentle whole-bunch complexity, finishing long, supple and beautifully persistent with impressive elegance and drinkability. Critics have highlighted the wine’s floral aromatics, medium-bodied palate and refined tannic structure, noting its purity and finesse within the Jura Trousseau spectrum.
