The 2023 Cellier Saint Benoît Arbois Pupillin Chambines Ploussard is a beautifully delicate and terroir-transparent Jura red from one of the region’s most exciting young producers. Crafted by Benjamin Benoit in the village of Pupillin — widely regarded as the spiritual home of Ploussard — the wine comes from the steep red marl and clay-limestone soils of the Chambines parcel. Produced from 35-year-old vines and bottled at just 10.5% alcohol, the 2023 is one of the lightest and most ethereal expressions in the domaine’s range, vinified with a low-intervention philosophy focused on purity, freshness and site expression.
The nose reveals wild strawberry, redcurrant and rose petal layered alongside white pepper, crushed stone and subtle smoky reduction, giving the wine remarkable aromatic lift and finesse. On the palate, it is light-bodied with ultra-fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a beautifully translucent mineral core. Layers of pomegranate, sour cherry and delicate spice unfold with saline freshness and exceptional energy, finishing long, savoury and beautifully persistent with remarkable drinkability and elegance. Critics have described the wine as “almost a blanc de noirs” in character, highlighting its pale colour, tender structure and near weightless texture.
