The 2022 Save Our Souls Grenache is a vibrant and characterful Heathcote Grenache crafted by acclaimed winemakers Jason Searle and William Downie. Sourced from the northern reaches of Heathcote around Corop, where ancient Cambrian soils and a continental climate help build flavour and structure, the wine is inspired by the great Grenache-based wines of the southern Rhône. Fully destemmed, fermented on skins for nine days and matured for six months in oak, it delivers a fresh, savoury and highly drinkable expression of Australian Grenache.
The nose reveals plum jam, raspberry and Turkish delight layered with cinnamon, black pepper and subtle ironstone minerality. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully energetic with juicy red berry fruit, savoury spice and chewy tannins that provide structure without heaviness. Layers of raspberry, cherry, woody peppercorn and earthy spice unfold with freshness and balance, finishing long, vibrant and gently savoury with impressive texture and drinkability. Campbell Mattinson awarded the wine 91 points, praising its juicy fruit, floral spice and fine tannin framework.
