KING VALLEY
King Valley is a vibrant wine region located in northeast Victoria, Australia, at the foothills of the Australian Alps. Known for its cool alpine climate and strong Italian heritage, King Valley has become one of Australia’s most distinctive wine regions, particularly famous for producing wines from Italian grape varieties.
The region’s high altitude, ranging from 200 to over 800 metres, combined with warm days and cool nights, allows grapes to ripen slowly while maintaining natural acidity. This climate makes King Valley ideal for both sparkling wines and aromatic varieties.
King Valley is widely regarded as the home of Prosecco in Australia, with many wineries producing sparkling wines from the Glera grape. In addition, the region excels with Italian varieties such as Sangiovese, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Pinot Grigio, reflecting the strong influence of Italian immigrant families who helped shape the region’s wine culture.
