DOMAINE SYLVAIN CATHIARD

Domaine Sylvain Cathiard & Fils is a highly regarded, family-run winery located in the Vosne-Romanée area of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits in France, producing some of the region’s most sought-after Pinot Noir wines. The estate’s origins date back to the 1930s when Sylvain’s grandfather began working in Burgundy; over time the family’s vines were initially sold to négociants, but Sylvain eventually took over and expanded the domaine’s holdings. In the late 2000s his son Sébastien joined the domaine, bringing international experience and helping shape its modern direction. 

Today the domaine cultivates about 12.5 hectares of vineyards, many in prestigious sites around Vosne-Romanée. These include coveted parcels such as Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru as well as several Premier Cru (e.g., Aux Malconsorts, En Orveaux, Les Suchots, Les Reignots) and village parcels, along with a smaller holding in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits and Chambolle-Musigny. The family emphasizes meticulous vineyard work, careful sorting, and a winemaking approach designed to express terroir—destemming grapes, moderating new oak use (except on selected top cuvées), and focusing on purity of fruit and energy in the wines.

Production is relatively small and demand strong, contributing to their reputation and collectibility. Standout wines include the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru and Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Aux Malconsorts, known for depth, structure and aging potential, alongside excellent village and regional bottlings that display purity and charm.
