The 2023 Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Coteaux Bourguignons Les Croix Blanches is a fragrant Pinot Noir and Gamay blend from Burgundy, offering an inviting introduction to this celebrated Vosne-Romanée domaine. Under Sébastien Cathiard, the estate has extended its range while maintaining the attention to fruit purity and texture associated with its more prestigious wines. Les Croix Blanches comes from an interplanted vineyard situated between Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, with vines dating from the early 1980s. Contemporary assessments describe the 2023 as predominantly Pinot Noir, with approximately 30% Gamay, bringing together Pinot’s aromatic finesse and Gamay’s lively fruit character.
The 2023 offers red cherry, strawberry, redcurrant and cranberry, with bergamot, gentle pepper and subtle spice adding interest. Its palate is supple and fresh, with a crunchy red-fruit finish that makes it particularly appealing for relatively early drinking. Neal Martin awarded an early assessment of 88–90 Points, highlighting its pretty aromatics, balance and poised finish. Jasper Morris MW also noted its strawberry fragrance, energy and length, suggesting drinking from 2026–2028. Atlas Fine Wines’ contemporary tasting emphasised clean berry fruit, freshness and a chalky touch, reinforcing the impression of a graceful, approachable red with clear vineyard character.
