The 2021 Delamere Vineyard Pinot Noir is an expressive 100% Pinot Noir from Pipers River in northeast Tasmania, combining fragrant fruit with savoury depth and the freshness of its cool maritime setting. Established in 1982, Delamere is home to mature vines rooted in distinctive red ironstone-rich Ferrosol soils, which provide excellent drainage and moisture retention. Co-owner winemakers Shane Holloway and Fran Austin bring extensive experience to this family estate. The vineyard’s close planting and intensive hand management support concentrated flavours, while the moderating influence of Bass Strait allows slow ripening and helps preserve delicate aromatics and natural acidity.
The 2021 offers red and black cherry, violet, cinnamon and pepper, with savoury layers of clove and thyme adding complexity. In its vintage-specific assessment, Wine Selectors highlighted the wine’s aromatic intensity and textured palate, describing a combination of floral lift, dark and red fruits, herbs and spice. This is a Pinot Noir with enough fruit depth to make an impression while retaining a distinctly savoury character. Its appeal lies in that interplay: expressive cherry fruit gives immediate pleasure, while the herbal and spicy elements make it particularly interesting alongside food and worth allowing time to unfold in the glass.
