The 2018 Charteris Hawkesbury Vineyard Pinot Noir is a mature and expressive Central Otago Pinot Noir sourced from the renowned Hawkesbury Vineyard in the Cromwell Basin. Benefiting from the region’s warm days, cool nights and long growing season, the 2018 vintage has developed impressive complexity while retaining the vibrant fruit and structure that define premium Central Otago Pinot Noir. The nose is layered and inviting, revealing aromas of dark cherry, wild strawberry and plum alongside notes of dried herbs, forest floor, spice and subtle earthy undertones.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky tannins and beautifully integrated acidity. Flavours of red cherry, cranberry and blackberry are complemented by savoury notes of mushroom, dried thyme and gentle oak spice, creating a wine with both depth and elegance. Time in bottle has added texture and complexity, while the finish remains long, balanced and finely detailed with lingering red fruit and mineral freshness.
Ben’s Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent Pinot Noir for customers who appreciate the added complexity that comes with bottle age. Its combination of mature fruit, savoury character and refined structure makes it a superb match for roast duck, lamb loin, wild mushroom dishes, venison and aged soft cheeses. Drinking beautifully now, this wine is in a wonderful stage of development and can be enjoyed over the next 3–6 years.
