The 2025 Swinging Bridge Mrs Payten Chardonnay is a refined cool-climate Chardonnay from Orange, NSW, grown on the region’s elevated volcanic soils. The nose shows white peach, nectarine and yellow grapefruit with frangipani, nougat and subtle smoky oak, while touches of roasted nuts and vanilla add savoury complexity. The 2025 received 93 points from both Campbell Mattinson and Shanteh Wale.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully textured with bright natural acidity balancing ripe stone fruit and zesty citrus. Wild fermentation, seasoned oak and lees maturation contribute creamy, nutty depth, while grapefruit and lemon rind provide freshness and tension. The finish is long and polished, with restrained oak allowing the cool-climate fruit to remain the focus.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Chardonnay drinkers who enjoy modern Australian whites with ripe stone fruit, creamy texture, fresh acidity and well-integrated oak. Enjoy now or over the next several years and pair with grilled John Dory, roast chicken, salmon, creamy seafood dishes or mushroom risotto.
