The 2024 Cantina Calcagno Ginestra Etna Bianco is a striking 100% Carricante from the prized Contrada Volpari in Milo on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna. Grown from 30 to 40-year-old vines at around 850 metres above sea level in volcanic, sandy soils, the fruit is hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel and aged on fine lees for eight months to preserve its purity and mineral character. The nose is fresh and elegant, revealing lemon zest, green apple and white peach layered with white flowers, flint and distinctive volcanic minerality.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, a finely textured mouthfeel and exceptional saline freshness. Bright citrus and orchard fruit are framed by a crisp mineral backbone, leading to a long, clean finish with impressive precision and persistence. Pure, energetic and unmistakably Etna, this is a superb expression of Carricante with both immediate appeal and excellent ageing potential.
