The vineyards are situated on the northern flank of Mount Etna, where elevations of 600 to 900 metres above sea level provide a combination of warm Mediterranean sunshine and cool mountain temperatures. Ancient lava flows have created mineral-rich volcanic soils that offer exceptional drainage while imparting the distinctive smoky, savoury, and mineral character for which Etna wines are renowned.

Cantina Calcagno is best known for Etna Rosso and Etna Bianco, produced from Sicily's indigenous grape varieties. Nerello Mascalese, often complemented by Nerello Cappuccio, forms the foundation of the estate's elegant red wines, offering aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petals, orange peel, herbs, volcanic ash, and sweet spice. Carricante is the flagship white variety, producing wines with vibrant citrus, green apple, white flowers, saline minerality, and remarkable freshness, while demonstrating excellent ageing potential.

The winery follows a philosophy centred on sustainable viticulture, low-intervention winemaking, and respect for the individuality of each vineyard parcel. Hand harvesting, careful fruit selection, gentle extraction, and restrained maturation preserve the purity of the fruit while allowing the volcanic terroir of Mount Etna to remain the defining characteristic of every wine.
