The 2023 Fritz Haag Juffer Riesling Kabinett Magnum (1500ml) is a beautifully refined Riesling Kabinett from the steep Brauneberger Juffer vineyard in Germany's Mosel Valley, presented in the rare and highly desirable 1.5-litre magnum format. Brauneberger Juffer is a classified VDP.GROSSE LAGE vineyard, with an extremely steep, south-facing slope reaching gradients of up to 75% and dominated by weathered blue Devonian slate. The rocky soils, direct exposure to the sun and reflected warmth from the Mosel create ideal conditions for Riesling, producing wines that combine ripe fruit with vibrant acidity and pronounced slate minerality. Fritz Haag's 2023 Juffer Kabinett is made from 100% Riesling and sits at only around 8–8.5% alcohol, delivering remarkable intensity without sacrificing the weightless character that defines classical Mosel Kabinett.
The 2023 is exceptionally pure and aromatic, showing white peach, vineyard peach, greengage and pear alongside candied grapefruit, lemon, lime blossom, fresh mint and delicate white flowers. On the palate, juicy yellow fruit and subtle residual sweetness are balanced by racy natural acidity and a fine slate-driven mineral backbone, creating a wine that feels simultaneously generous and feather-light. Critical reception has been outstanding: James Suckling awarded 95 Points, Vinous 94 Points and Decanter 93 Points. Suckling particularly praised its elegant peach fruit, floral delicacy and pristine acidity, while Vinous highlighted the wine's bright lemon core and remarkable length. Mosel Fine Wines rated it 91 Points and recommends a mature drinking window of 2031–2043.
