The 2023 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett is a beautifully refined Riesling Kabinett from the steep Brauneberger Juffer vineyard in Germany's Mosel Valley, produced by one of the region's most respected historic estates. The dramatic south-facing Brauneberg hillside has been recognised for exceptional wine since Roman times and is characterised by extremely steep slopes and weathered blue Devonian slate soils. The Kabinett is selected from earlier-picked fruit to preserve delicacy, freshness and the naturally low alcohol that defines classical Mosel Riesling. At only around 8% alcohol, the 2023 combines remarkable flavour intensity with an almost weightless structure, making it a particularly pure expression of the Fritz Haag style.
The 2023 shows white peach, vineyard peach, greengage and citrus alongside grapefruit, spring flowers, minty herbs, almond and a distinctive smoky slate minerality. The palate is light and beautifully focused, with ripe yellow fruit balanced by racy acidity and a delicate natural sweetness. Despite its generosity, the wine remains remarkably precise and refreshing, finishing with lemon, mineral and floral notes. Technical information lists approximately 45.5 g/L residual sugar and 8.1 g/L total acidity, explaining the excellent balance between sweetness and freshness.
