The NV Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition (Base 2021, Disgorged March 2024) Magnum is the flagship cuvée from one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers. A blend of Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards across the Vallée de la Marne, it combines multiple reserve wines with the 2021 base vintage to create a Champagne of exceptional balance, complexity and consistency. Fermented partly in oak and aged extensively on lees, Ultradition perfectly captures Laherte Frères’ house style of freshness, texture and terroir expression.
The nose reveals green apple, pear and citrus blossom layered with brioche, almond and subtle chalky minerality. On the palate, it is vibrant and beautifully textured, with fine mousse, crisp acidity and flavours of orchard fruit, lemon zest and toasted hazelnut. The finish is long, dry and saline, combining richness and freshness with remarkable finesse and drinkability.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb grower Champagne that overdelivers in every way. Fresh, complex and incredibly versatile, it’s equally at home as an aperitif or alongside oysters, scallops, roast chicken, sushi or soft cheeses. The magnum format offers even greater complexity and ageing potential. Enjoy now or cellar for 8–10 years.
