The Bruno Paillard Brut Première Cuvée NV is the flagship Champagne of one of the region’s most respected independent houses. Founded in Reims in 1981, Bruno Paillard built his reputation on meticulous blending, extended lees ageing and unusually low dosage levels. Première Cuvée is crafted from over 30 crus across Champagne, blending Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier with a significant proportion of reserve wines dating back many years, resulting in a Champagne of remarkable consistency, depth and elegance.
The nose reveals citrus zest, green apple and white peach alongside notes of brioche, toasted almonds and hazelnut. The palate is refined and beautifully balanced, with a fine, persistent mousse, vibrant acidity and a chalky mineral backbone. Fresh citrus and orchard fruit flavours are complemented by subtle pastry complexity, leading to a long, precise finish. Wine Advocate has awarded recent releases 93+ points, while James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck have both scored the wine 94 points, praising its purity, finesse and outstanding balance.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A benchmark non-vintage Champagne that consistently overdelivers for quality and sophistication. Elegant, complex and incredibly versatile, it pairs beautifully with oysters, lobster, smoked salmon, sushi, roast chicken and soft cheeses. Perfect as an aperitif or at the dining table, it drinks beautifully now but will reward several years of cellaring with additional richness and complexity.
